How do I identify chemical-free jaggery?
Natural jaggery is brown to deep amber, not bright yellow, and tastes slightly earthy. Very light, shiny jaggery has usually been treated with a chemical clarifier. A lab report is the surest proof.
What is sulphur-free jaggery?
Jaggery made without sulphur compounds, which are often used to lighten its colour. Ours is cleaned only by skimming the boiling juice by hand.
What is the difference between jaggery pieces and powder?
Only the form. Both come from the same batch of West UP sugarcane jaggery: pieces are cut into cubes, powder is crushed and sifted to dissolve easily. Each pack is 600 g.
Is jaggery healthier than sugar?
Jaggery keeps some minerals that refined sugar loses; ours has 3.36 mg iron per 100 g. But it is about 94% sugar, so eat it in moderation.
